Morocco

We've had a great 10-day trip around Morrocco - but it was very easy as we had pre-booked a tour to ease us into our travels. Khaled, our guide, met us at the airport and we spent about a week being driven around and shown the sights. We started with a tour around the el-Badi palace and the colourful, hectic souks in Marrakech. We then headed to the Atlas mountains and spent the next three days taking walks through the valleys and past the small villages and through the parched crop fields and olive trees. Caitlin spent most of this time riding a mule and a donkey so didn't feel the heat too much. We were grateful for our guide and cook in still providing us with lunch whilst they had to go without as we were in the middle of Ramadan.

We continued our tour with a stay in the walled city of Taroudant, which was like an oasis of calm compared to Marrakech, but still a riot of sounds and smells. Spied these goats climbing an Argan tree nearby. Via a quick play on the beach in highly-developed Agadir we reached the old pirate port of Essaoiura where we rode camels on the beach, explored the narrow streets and markets and ate well. Our last nights in Marrakech were at a luxurious small courtyard hotel with the day spent at waterpark of pools and slides.

We made our way by train to Tangiers for our last night in Morroco before we caught the ferry to Tarifa in Spain.
